Bilikiki trounces Cameroon, 5-2!

According to early reports which have yet to be verified, Solomon Islands have beaten Cameroon 5-2 in the opening round of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup! Source: Wikipedia

Unbelievable!

I'll get back to you guys as soon as more news comes in. Right now, I'm off for a little celebration...Cheers!

...

An hour later, FIFA finally decides to get in on the news. Read it all here.

James Naka is turning out to be a real danger man for the Bilikiki boys. He single-handedly scored all 5 goals before Cameroon got their 2 consolation goals in the dying minutes to put a bit of respectability in the score. Cheers to the man. From the report though, the game wasn't pretty and nor was our style of play. "Unrefined" it was called. That made me laugh. Apparently we played a more traditional style of football that you'd expect on a football pitch, not on the sand. The spectators must've thought there was a sand storm or something. Nevertheless, despite Cameroon's attempt to play aerial balls as is common and expected in beach soccer, our unconventional style of play was just as effective.

The question one has to ask though is whether it'll be as effective when we play against a true beach soccer powerhouse in Portugal and Uruguay. This is a huge step forward for us in terms of accomplishments but we're still miles off from the standard of the big boys. We'll go into our next match against Uruguay as overwhelming underdogs but again, I'll point out that it'll be an absolutely terrific learning experience. If you want to be the best, you've got to learn from the best, aye? Still, if something extraordinary should happen and by luck we manage to etch out a favourable result...well, we're allowed to dream. After all, for what may only be a brief moment, we're at the top of Group C.

In the other results, Portugal just had the edge over Uruguay scraping home to a 5-4 win. There were also victories for Argentina and Bahrain.

Our next game will be 2 days from now which should provide some time for the boys to enjoy the show on offer. Anyways, that's the wrap for today. I'll see you tomorrow where we'll catch up on the latest from the New Zealand Football Championship.

Have a good morning.
